Surge water test chambers
Reliable testing in accordance with standards
The surge water test simulates extreme water stress and is indispensable in many industries for verifying the tightness, safety, and functionality of products. It tests whether components continue to function reliably even when they are suddenly cooled by cold surge water—for example, when driving through a deep puddle or in heavy rain. This allows weak points to be identified at an early stage and product quality to be ensured in the long term.
Test procedure: How the surge water test works
During the test, the test specimen is first heated to up to +160 °C in the chamber's usable space. This is followed by shock cooling using a precisely controlled water surge with a temperature of +2 to +4 °C – comparable in real terms to driving through a puddle.
Optionally, Arizona dust can be added to the water to test the combined effects of dust and water. This procedure supplements classic IP protection class tests and complies with the following standards, among others:
- ISO 16750-4
- LV 124 K-12
- VW 80000 K-12
- BMW GS 95003 6.6.2
- BMW GS 95024-3-1 K-12
- Renault 36-00-802 / -Q
Continuous recording of all relevant parameters ensures precise and reproducible documentation.

Our surge water chambers can be equipped with numerous options to make your testing processes safe, reproducible, and compliant with standards:
- Extraction of explosive gases: Ensures the safe removal of potentially hazardous vapors from the test specimens – increases operational safety.
- Flexible surge nozzles: Individually adjustable for targeted simulation of different surge directions and intensities.
- Cooling for surge nozzles: Stabilizes the temperature in the water system and enables consistent test results even during long test cycles.
- Test specimen sensor for temperature: Measures the actual surface temperature of the test specimen for precise process monitoring and documentation.
- Programmable digital channels: Enable flexible control and automation of complex test sequences.
- Pipe feed-throughs: For the safe integration of sensors, cables, or measuring systems into the test chamber.
- Heavy-duty design: Reinforced construction for large or heavy test specimens – ideal for components from the automotive or mechanical engineering industries.
